As slow as the County of El Paso’s population is growing, the reality is that it’s growing even slower.
Starting with the 2020, the Census Bureau started counting the population of army bases as part of their host community, instead of counting the soldiers as residents of their “home of record”.
That means that whatever the population of El Paso County is, it would have been about 40,000 people less without that change in the census protocol.
