The 13th Anniversary of the Killing of Daniel Saenz

Today is the 13th anniversary of the day that El Paso Police Department Officer Jose Flores shot and killed the handcuffed prisoner Daniel Saenz in the sallyport of the El Paso County Jail in downtown El Paso. Officer Flores shot Mr. Saenz as Mr. Saenz lay on the ground.

After El Paso District Attorney Jaime Esparza failed to get a grand jury to indict Officer Flores, Officer Flores was reinstated to the El Paso Police Department.

The El Paso Police Department has a long history of killing citizens having mental health crises. Hell, that’s what they do.

The City of El Paso has paid out big money to settle lawsuits brought against the El Paso Police Department for killing citizens having mental health crises.

Unfortunately, the cops won’t stop. They killed another guy just a year and a half ago. We might not have heard about that one, but it happened on the freeway during rush hour, so it was hard to keep under wraps.

El Paso is failing. We need to do better.
