Giving the City the authority to grant millions of dollars in tax rebates is a Petrie dish for corruption.
Come on. Do you think any of our City Representatives is so pure that they could not be persuaded by a good argument and $10,000?
Or their staff.
Or City staff.
You are the weakest link.
Hell, all anyone needs is plausible deniability. A rationale they can articulate. Some tenuous line of reasoning that leads from here to there.
Tell me who, among our elected officials and City staff, entered public service because they’re pure of heart.
And all the City’s recent public declarations reek of plausible deniability. They don’t smell like the truth.
The City decides where it wants to go and then picks rationales to get us there.
Have you ever been the father of a teenage girl?
Last week City Council gave a group spearheaded by the Meyer’s Group tax incentives worth $32 million. They gave Hunt Metro 321 a million bucks. That’s a lot of cheese. Two weeks ago it was incentives plus cash. Well, not cash. A check. That’s almost as good as money.
When logic and reason and all good sense dictate one course of action, and yet our “leaders” choose another, you gotta wonder. There are lots of possibilities. A virus. A lack of oxygen. Hypnosis.
Corruption is only one of the possibilities.
