Most El Pasoans aren’t aware that the City gets a little juice on all its projects.
It’s called “Construction Management.” The City’s Engineering Department charges the City fifteen percent of the project cost to make sure that the project gets built correctly.
Weird, huh? It’s kind of like your wife charging you for sex.
After land acquisition, the City stands to make more than $20 million off of a hypothetical $180 million project.
But I’m sure that $20 million wouldn’t influence City Staff in their efforts to do what’s best for El Pasoans. After all, they’re public servants.
Even though it’s probably already penciled into the budgets for the next couple of years, and if they don’t get it, they’ll have to do some juggling.
After all, they’re public servants.
No, they’re public savants. They look like collectively they couldn’t make a straight line with a laser, but give them a whiff of 20 million taxpayer dollars and be amazed how quickly they can figure out a way to pocket it!
