Judging from what I see on social media, the proposed deck park is wildly unpopular.
Even most of the people who are okay with the deck park don’t want the taxpayers to fund it.
And the truth is that El Paso isn’t ready for the deck park. We have other needs. Like street repair.
And there’s no real urgency to widen I-10. Despite what the corporate advocates are telling us, the stretch of freeway between Copia and Executive Center isn’t traffic jammed. If you think driving that stretch of the freeway is problematic, try I-10 between Hawkins and Zaragosa during rush hour, or practically anytime, for that matter.
So what’s the rush? Can’t we see how traffic will be affected by the new Borderland Expressway that hooks Loop 375 up to Interstate 10 via the Anthony Gap?
Let’s take a minute and breathe. If it really is a good idea, it will still be a good idea in ten years. And if it’s a bad idea, then we can pat ourselves on our backs for dodging that bullet.
Unfortunately, the big money rarely listens to logic such as yours, Rich. Those sonsabitches are like a dog with a bone. Once they get an idea that appeals to their greed, there is just no stopping them. As for street repair, I gave up that battle a long, long time ago. Frankly, I think it has bee so long since any real street repair or repaving has been done around here that we cannot find any contractor capable of doing a decent job anyway! The last time they repaved parts of Montwood, on the East Side, there were cracks in the new pavement within days of completion, and the overall street was very uneven (and, of course, it still is). The rattles and thunks in my car have now developed more rattles and thunks.
I concur. Not included in the 200 million is the taking of all the properties on the north side of the freeway. How much is that going to cost? Plus turning state hwys like Mesa into a parking lot twice a day for years. Just getting from I-10 and Mesa to Vinton takes about an hour especially on Monday and Friday. We have infrastructure needs not more debt. Remember the trolley ? debacle?
