Yesterday the Mexican Army posted up on Avenida Juarez.
What were they looking for?
Fentanyl? Venezuelans? The approval of the American president?
While I was there they didn’t pop any trunks, or ask anyone to get out of their cars. They just stood there, looking slightly menacing with their balaclavas and assault rifles.
Somehow I don’t feel any safer in the presence of uniformed armed men, but that’s probably the result of the way I was brought up.
I visited Palomas last Friday and the Mexican Army was there in force and they did pop my trunk. But I couldn’t discern what they were looking for. The soldier asked me a question but I did not understand him. I just said, “La Tienda Rosa” and he waved me thru. There was an armored car at the border end of the Avenida, the first time in years I have seen one there. Definitely out in force.
I had an extra margarita to deal with the stress 🙂
