Yeah, that will really work.

Here’s a story from Marty Schladen, writing in the El Paso Times:

The director of the Texas Department of Public Safety today apologized for an embarrassing lapse by the Texas Rangers that ended with a confidential witness interview being released to the press.

News of the lapse comes on the same day the Texas House is expected to give the Rangers responsibility for investigating corruption among state officials.

. . .

The Texas House today will vote whether to give the Rangers the power to investigate public corruption by state officials as part of a move to take that ability away from the Travis County District Attorney’s office, which now operates the Public Integrity Unit.

. . .

Republicans who advocate giving the Rangers responsibility for investigating corruption say that its prestige and competence will insulate it from political meddling.

You have to wonder if they said that with a straight face.

  1. A lapse in confidentiality doesn’t even compare to the drunk and aggressive behavior of Travis County DA Rosemary Lehmberg during booking for a DWI, to which she pleaded guilty. Very guilty. She spent over $3000 on vodka in a year and a grand jury saw a pattern of heavy drinking. Lehmberg is in charge of investigating corruption in Texas now. Sorry, but I’ll trust a Ranger over Rosemary Lehmberg any day. She couldn’t even say “corruption” without slurring it.

    1. So what? You don’t think there’s something hinky there? Or you think right wing hinky is better than left wing hinky? I’m willing to get rid of all of them.

      1. I could care less about right wing vs left wing. So what happens when you get rid of them all? No one in charge of investigating corruption? Who is perfect according to your standards? Besides, you that is.
