Veronica Escobar’s Bacon

Say what you like about El Paso’s U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar, but she’s bringing home the pork.

From the El Paso Times:

U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso, recently announced $15.6 million in funding for 15 projects across El Paso thanks to the federal Community Project Funding program.

“It is my privilege to serve El Paso and ensure federal dollars are being invested in our community,” Escobar said in a news release. “The projects selected will serve the Borderland in a variety of ways, improving infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities, and investing in the incredible work already being done in our district.”

Though the projects still have to be officially approved through the 2025 federal appropriations process, the proposed funding builds on the $19 million secured for 15 projects in a package of appropriations bills for 2024.

From Congresswoman Escobar’s webpage:

Congresswoman Escobar serves on the prestigious House Judiciary Committee, House Armed Services Committee, and House Ethics Committee.

She is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the New Democrat Coalition, the Democratic Women’s Caucus, and the Pro-Choice Caucus.

In December 2022, Congresswoman Escobar, after receiving the highest vote count, was elected to Democratic Leadership, as one of three co-chairs of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). In this position, she is charged with crafting and disseminating strong Caucus-wide messaging guidance that communicates House Democrats’ values and sharply contrasts that with the extreme policies of House Republicans. Also, as Co-Chair of DPCC, she is the only Texan in leadership in both the House and the Senate and in both parties.

How do you think that might all change if a famously petty and vindictive candidate were to be elected president, and Democrats were to lose control of the House?

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking.
