If you only visit the English media here in El Paso, you might not know that there’s a city across the border with 1.4 million people.
Last week, or maybe a little longer ago, Jose Bermúdez Cuarón passed away in a local hospital. He was 94.
Mr. Bermúdez Cuarón was the mayor of Juarez (the big city across the border) from 1986 to 1989. He is credited with inventing the maquilador, or twin plant, an industrial model popular in Juarez and many other cities in Mexico.
Mr. Bermúdez Cuarón has many descendants in Juarez and a few relative here in El Paso. Our condolences to his family and friends.
