Lord knows I don’t want to tell anybody how to run their business.
But . . . .
The other day I went down to Po Po’s to get a $2.50 quart of Natural Light draft. And there were plenty of empty parking spaces all right out front. But paying a meter adds a significant percentage to the price of a $2.50 quart of Natty Light. So I drove down to the Palace where the parking is free.
And then yesterday I saw all these empty metered spaces on Fourth Street at one o’clock in the afternoon.
Now obviously these empty spaces weren’t making the City any money. And the meters were, maybe, depriving the local merchants of some revenue, on which they would presumably pay sales tax, which would eventually trickle into the City coffers.
So I wonder if having metered spaces in commercial areas with low demand for parking is a sound economic decision.
