Trolley News

A couple of weeks ago I went to one of the “Trolley Safety Meetings.” The meeting was in the auditorium at the Downtown Library. I picked up a couple of interesting tidbits.

The first was that the trolley will wait at the stop by Cathedral High School to make sure it has a clear shot all the way up the hill on Stanton. If the trolley stops, it might not be able to conquer the grade, and it might have to stop, because the tracks are on the left turn lane all the way up.

Second, when the trolley starts running, Sun Metro will start charging for the Downtown Circulator, which currently links Segundo Barrio to downtown El Paso. All of the shiny new baubles the City is foisting on us come with Operations and Maintenance costs, and that money has to come from somewhere. “Alternative revenue streams,” they call it, so they can claim that they didn’t raise our taxes.

A rose, or an outhouse, by any other name will smell as sweet.

And then there’s this:

“Walking along the track may cause injury or death.”

I always thought that walking was good for you.

  1. LOL. Or you can just ride a rental bike and slide into space along the track.

Trolley can’t make it uphill but they want overweight people to ride bikes in hot sun, heavy traffic and travel these same hills.

Maybe, they could get a couple of Budweiser horses to pull the trolley. Budweiser would love the publicity.
