The Effects of China Tariffs on South El Paso Street

You better get down there before the tariffs ripple through the supply chain.

How long will it take for the shoppers to realize that buying things in Juarez are cheaper than the U.S?

Mexico’s tariffs have drawn Mexican shoppers to South El Paso Street in search of bargains for years. That line won’t hold if the U.S. maintains its punitive tariffs against China.

Mexican duty on shoes and cotton clothes are 26% and 25% respectively, so they’ll still be cheaper on South El Paso Street, except Mexican shoes and blue jeans are of better or comparable quality to those from China.

The U.S. tariffs will be another dagger in the hearts of many of those merchants on South El Paso Street.
