Sunday Matinee: The Assassin

This movie from Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien is gorgeous. You might be tempted to write it off as some Chinese martial arts movie, but you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you overlooked it.

This movie is gorgeous. The cinematography. The landscapes. The costumes. The pomp and ceremony of ancient China.

Even the B Roll is gorgeous.

There’s some symbolism in the smoke, and fog, and curtains. If you’re looking for a topic for your Master’s thesis, you might find it here.

Check it out, before it disappears.

And remember: The Way of the Sword is Pitiless.
