Some questions about the latest police shooting

How about this account from the El Paso Times of what happened during the police shooting on Dyer last week:

About 8 p.m. Thursday, the incident started as a traffic stop when a patrol officer pulled over a car for an unspecified traffic violation, [police spokesman Sgt. Robert] Gomez said. There were three people in the car.

“A solo officer was attempting to conduct a traffic stop,” Gomez said. “The vehicle pulls into the Player’s (sport bar) back parking lot.

“During that traffic stop, one of the occupants confronts the officer with a gun. Shots are fired. There is a short foot pursuit and the officer follows (the man). He collapsed and he is taken to UMC (University Medical Center of El Paso), where he is pronounced dead.”

The man crossed Monroe and collapsed in a parking lot near Gateway South near Cassidy Road, Gomez said.

Gomez said that the man was allegedly armed with a handgun. The officer, who was not identified, was not injured.

Do you think Sgt. Gomez used the word “allegedly”?

This is the police version of events. What about the other people in the car? What do they say happened?

Finding out might require a reporter to leave the office. Do they still do that?

Just wondering.
