Playing ball

According to this story from El Diario, the City of El Paso has a professional real estate agent/consultant on salary with an annual income of $300,000 a year. He must be good, right? But maybe not, because the City is also paying an estimated $500,000 commission for the upcoming real estate transactions related to moving City Hall. I guess the consultant couldn’t handle it.

What’s that? It’s the same person? We’re paying him $300,000 a year for consulting services, and another $500,000 commission on top of that? Well, he must be very good.

What’s that? He didn’t notice that the El Paso Times building was selling for $3.7 million more than its appraised value until newspaper reporters pointed it out to him? And we’re paying him $300,000 a year, and a half a million dollars commission?

What’s that? He’s a wheel in the Paso del Norte Group, the group of elite businessmen and their minions with ties, secret and otherwise, to City government? Oh, well then it makes perfect sense.

Nothing to see here. Move along.
