Journalist Murdered in Ciudad Chihuahua

According to news reports, a radio journalist was shot dead in his driveway in Ciudad Chihuahua on Saturday morning. From a story that appeared on Excelsior.com on Saturday.

Esta mañana, el periodista Jesús Adrián Rodríguez Samaniego fue asesinado a bordo de su automóvil afuera de su domicilio, ubicado en la calle Quinta de la colonia Santa Rosa, municipio de Chihuahua.

Diarios locales informaron que Rodríguez Samaniego iba llegando a su casa, cuando sujetos armados se acercaron hasta el vehículo del reportero y le dispararon en varias ocasiones.

Adrián Rodríguez trabajaba como reportero desde hace varios años y actualmente colaboraba en una estación de radio local.

This morning [Saturday] the journalist Jesús Adrián Rodríguez Samaniego was murdered while he was in his car outside of his home, located on Fifth Street in the Santa Rosa neighborhood of Chihuahua City.

Local dailies say that Rodríguez Samaniego was arriving at his house when armed subjects got near the reporter’s car and shot multiple times.

Adrián Rodríguez worked for several years as a journalist and was working with a local radio station.

The killing happened the same day that the Daily Beast ran a story titled Suicide Journalism on the Crazy-Mean Streets of Tijuana about Tijuana’s Zeta daily.

In Mexico, the greatest enemy of a free press can be found in one dangerous equation: Corrupt authorities, plus organized crime, equals impunity,” [Adela Navarro Bello, the general director of Zeta] said.

During the height of the violence in Juarez, the murders of Juarez journalists was more common. Maybe these are the good old days.
