Don’t tell anyone, but I think the El Paso Times paywall isn’t working. They announced it last December, in an effort to encourage subscriptions, and for a little while I was anonymizing my browser (Control Shift N in Chrome) to dodge it, but lately I’ve just been visiting their website without anonymizing, and I haven’t been stymied yet.
Maybe they couldn’t get enough people to subscribe to justify a paywall, or maybe they were worried about losing online advertisers if they reduced their page views. Or maybe they were lying. Or maybe they don’t know they’re paywall isn’t working.
Update: Ho ho ho. It got me this morning. Only four stories left this month. I guess I’ll go back to anonymizing.
