Downtown Parking

Maybe you’ve negotiated the Times excruciating new website to read this story about a study for a new parking garage downtown. Maybe not. The website is difficult. Three agencies are talking about pitching in for the study, at a cost of only $60,000.

Let me point out the obvious: No parking lot study was ever commissioned that concluded that no parking lot was needed. The study is just a frivolous attempt to justify a foregone conclusion.

As alluded to in the Times, I predict that the surface parking lot in front of the new City Hall will be upgraded to a new multi-level parking garage.

I also predict that some of the parking lot structure will include city offices, to consolidate the far-flung departments displaced when the City destroyed the old City Hall.

Maybe we can save some money, and hire the same people who did the study for the new ballpark.

  1. What’s wrong with the new site? Haven’t played with it much yet, but it looks a hell of a lot better than the old one.

  2. There is recent speculation that the parking lot across from City Hall will be the site of the new City Hall building.
