Buying Government Influence for Less $

I’m a little disturbed by Beto’s latest campaign move, to solicit donations of less than $200 from enough people to come up with $123,200 in twenty-four hours. The goal is to wrest the control of government from special interests, and give it back to people who can pony up just a little cash.

The implicit idea, I guess, is that unless you donate, even if only $10, you don’t have a voice in government. Your vote isn’t what’s important. It’s your campaign donation that counts.

I know that’s not what Beto means, or thinks. Or, judging by the way politics works in El Paso, maybe that is what he means. Maybe it’s just too honest.
