A Perfect World: The Mennonite Colonies of Chihuahua

Here’s a locally relevant documentary about a couple of Mennonite colonies just down the road from here in Chihuahua.

I know you’ve seen Mennonites here. At the mall. Or Starr Western Wear. And obviously there are Mennonites with varying degrees of acculturation.

The Mennonites in Cuauhtémoc drive pickup trucks and use electricity. For some reason they’re big on soft-serve ice cream.

But all the cultures are what makes El Paso so special.

El Sabinal is about equidistant from Ascensión and Casas Grandes, to the east. It’s so remote that you have go zoom out four times on Google maps before you get a point of reference.

From National Geographic.

Check it out.
